Nobody can predict the future and trying to predict the weather is just as difficult. However, you may want to research flood insurance especially if you are in a flood designated area.
Flood insurance cannot be part of your homeowners insurance plan and is only attainable through "The National Flood Insurance Program" which is administered by FEMA (Federal Emergency Management Agency).
In 2013 FEMA issued a new map of NYC flood zones and is still conducting a revised study in obtaining a more permanent "Flood Zone" determination for people to acquaint themselves with.
